About Me

I am a German researcher who is interested in the theory of geometric measures and dimensionality.

In my spare time you can find me at the local hackspace tinkering with small to medium sized hard- and software projects.

Projects

Dimension Curse Detector (2022 — today)

This project is led by Dr. Tom Hanika within the Loewe Exploration program. In this project, we investigate to which extent machine learning is influenced by the intrinsic dimensionality of data. For this, we quantify the Curse of Dimensionality which is strongly connected to the phenomenon of measure concentration. Within the project, we develop methods that allow to efficiently compute the intrinsic dimension of modern large-scale datasets.

Formal Context Collection

Together with Prof. Robert Jäschke we collect and maintain datasets from and for the FCA community. Contributions are welcome 🙂

Supervision

If you’re after bachelor’s or master’s projects or theses, here’s a list of the ones I’ve supervised and wrapped up, so you can get some ideas for your own topic. I’m generally open to ideas, but they should be somewhat related to the topics on this site. On the department’s general teaching page you can find some open topic ideas that I have been thinking about. If you’re interested, get in touch.

Extracurricular Activities

Supervision of Student Internships

I supervise an annual two-week student internship at the University of Kassel on analyzing the emerging mastodon social network (2022 — today).

Girls’ Day

I host a one-day introductory programming workshop for Kara, the turing 🐞, once a year.

Computer Chaos

I organize the sporadic Chaos Meetup in room -1307 and am quite active in the local hackspace.
